The Battlefront Classic Collection Launch Was A Complete Debacle

This one...this one hurts to write. If you were a PS2 owner back in the day, you know that Battlefront and Battlefront II were two of the best games ever made! They were truly iconic and I was HYPE for the release of the Battlefront Classic Collection. But somehow...someway...this game got so botched that it left me speechless!

Right off the bat it got off to a slow start. At launch, about 10,000 eager players rushed into the game and tried to load a multiplayer game. However, there only 3 servers available that held 64 players each. AKA less than 2% of the player population was able to find a game!

But it's not only that, there's missing cutscenes, major disconnecting issues and an overall terrible gaming experience.

The Battlefront Classic Collection has over 80% negative reviews on steam

This image above speaks for itself, but this is a blog so I think I have to give my two cents...

At the time of this writing, the Battlefront Classic Collection has over 80% negative reviews on steam! People are furious at the quality of the final product. Everyone just wanted a simple copy pasta of the Battlefront we knew and loved. It blows my mind how even the lowest possible expectations can somehow not be met.

When you have a second, checkout this video below and just look how laggy the combat is.

I mean this has to be a sick prank. I just find it so ridiculous for several reasons:

  1. This game is being charged $35 to play an UNFINISHED GAME!

  2. Said 'unfinished game,' was a complete, finished game in 2004 !!!! (OG Battlefront)

  3. There was no time strain to release this game. It's not an annual release like Call of Duty, so why didn't the devs just take their time and wait until the game was fully ready to be released.

  4. The game is a re-release - they aren't even creating a new world or new game!!!

They even found a way to ruin the OG loading screen...

PRISON!!!! PRISON I SAY!!!

It's just absurd to me how little these studios care about their products. Whether it's the big gaming studios like Activision or random ones like Aspyr, there just seems to be no passion left with these studios. Back in the day, we used to get masterpieces! We always had new games to try and so many developers were expanding the creativity to create truly engaging storylines and captivating games.

What happened to the game I love meme

I've never related harder to a meme than this one right here...

But part of me truly wonders if gaming has gotten so big, so complex and so advanced that it's not possible for these smaller studios to truly create captivating games given how advanced the space has become. It could almost feel like we've advanced so far that these studios need massive funding and resources in order to create anything truly playable on this latest generation of consoles.

That's the one out I can give these developers, but I also feel like I'm reaching there. For the Battlefront Classic Collection specifically, there's absolutely no way for them to release (really, re-release) a game in this manner. It's just unforgiveable.

It almost feels like stealing in a sense: they know they're prying on our nostalgia and with minimal effort, they can take our money and run away...

Don't be fooled, I'm always a fan of games delaying in order to have a successful launch. This needs to become more commonplace in the industry because one bad launch can ruin the most hyped up games ever (cough cough, Cyberpunk).

*Fun little side tangent here - Cyberpunk is actually in one of the best places it's ever been in. It runs smooth, has an amazing storyline and world - but it will always be tainted by its borderline humiliating launch*

By the way, I know I'm being extremely dramatic but this sort of behavior has been going on for wayyyyy too long with all these gaming developers. I'm sitting here hoping and waiting for the tide to turn back in the favor for the consumer.

For now, we sit tight and wait for the Elden Ring DLC to drop in June. These blogs have been fun to write - thanks for tuning in!
